2001 Inductee
Scott Murray has been the Sports Director/Anchor at NBC 5 (KXAS-TV) in Dallas/Ft. Worth since 1980. Scott was the recipient of the 2000 Heartland Regional Emmy Award for Best Sports Anchor. He has been named Associated Press and UPI Sportscaster of the Year eight times, and voted Best Sportscaster in Texas seven times by both AP and UPI.
In addition to sportscasting, Scott is involved in and serves on the Board of Directors of a multitude of children’s civic, and charitable organizations, including the American Cancer Society, MDA, Ronald McDonald House Charities and Special Olympics. He hosts “NBC 5,” a weekly segment of “Scott’s Kids,” a show that has been honored nationally by Big Brothers and Sisters of America.
Scott began his broadcasting career as a teenager in Rochester, New York, doing a nightly radio show while attending the University of Rochester as a pre-med major. After college, pediatrics gave way to broadcasting, and he landed his first television job in Albany, New York as Sports Director/Anchor at WAST-TV (now WNYT). From there it was on to WHEC-TV in Rochester (where he stayed only 8 weeks) before departing for the NBC O & O in Washington, DC. Then he put down roots in Texas, where he has remained. That’s where his family has grown up, and both his son and daughter have graduated from Baylor University.
Scott Murray exemplifies the best of broadcasting: an award winning journalist and a caring, generous, compassionate man.
